“I’ve been having adventures with wildlife. First was a mountain lion. In retrospect I realize this wasn’t a good idea, but I decided to hike the burn area in segment 2 at 2:00AM. All was well until I spotted a pair of eyes about 20 feet in front of me in my headlamp. I had no idea what it was, but then it blinked. I have a cat at home. This was definitely a feline blink! I turned my light up higher and I could see it was a mountain lion. Then it started to crouch down like it was going to jump at me. God, I was terrified! I grabbed a log that was beside me on the trail and held it in front of me and started backing up. The lion followed me for about half a mile, I could see his eyes first on one side of the trail, then the other. It was a LONG night!
Then, the other day a fox ran up to me and tried to steal my lunch. While I was putting my food back in my pack it ran up and stole the bag containing all my toilet paper! I couldn’t track that down and lost it all.
Yes, this trail has been interesting. I’m still a little jumpy, though, if I hear a stick break.”
