To my knowledge, no one has ever died on The Colorado Trail from weather related causes. But, rain, snow, sleet, and hail are possibilities. Thunder and lightning are a certainty. While mountain lions and bears loom large in the imaginations of most Colorado Trail hikers, it’s the weather they should be worried about. Nearly everyone can tell a harrowing weather-related story. It is part and parcel of the Colorado Trail experience. Here is a short video that illustrates the point with stories from my interviews with the 2015 thru-hiker class.
